Developing Modular Self-Promotion Pieces

I’m a bit of a unicorn. I work in many different mediums (photography, illustration, and design), some of which don’t always appear to cross over. It’s how I like to work, but admittedly can be confusing for some people.

I wanted to develop new marketing materials that worked together stylistically but could be split up into smaller packages depending on the type of work I’m applying for. I wanted the overall design/theme to be simple so as not to detract from the work, but elegant enough that it could be used as a template for future marketing pushes with new images.

I have a few different focuses and chose to break them out this way:

Photography - Storytelling for Journalism/Visual Libraries: I chose a 4-postcard sequence of images I recently shot in Madagascar. Each have a small written story snippet on the back for context and three of the cards have an additional image. The fourth card I’ve left space for a hand-written note to my client/contact much like a standard postcard would allow for.

Photography - Storytelling for Businesses: I felt a 3-fold brochure would be the best way to explain what I do and how it can be applied to various aspects of a business’s marketing plan and resolve content needs. It provides context to the things I do, the differences between them, and how I work.

Illustration - Editorial: I decided to use a simple pattern-heavy postcard in one of the newer illustration styles I’m working with. I also mirrored this image both on one of my business card options and within the 3-fold brochure for a continuous theme.

Illustration - Picture book: I used a recent illustration that I thought was indicative of the fun, picture book style I employ.

Business Cards: I chose 2 different patterns and use the one best suited for each client. One is a logo-based image and the other mirrors the editorial illustration piece I have used across a number of the other marketing materials.
